बेसल सेल कार्सिनोमा (BCC) सबसे common skin cancer है — सभी skin cancers का लगभग 80%। यह epidermis की सबसे निचली परत की basal cells से शुरू होता है।
BCC लगभग हमेशा धूप में आने वाले हिस्सों पर होता है — चेहरा, गर्दन, कान, सिर। सबसे typical sign है pearly, चमकदार nodule जिसमें छोटी blood vessels दिखती हों। यह एक ऐसे ज़ख्म जैसा भी दिख सकता है जो खून निकले, ठीक हो, और फिर खुले।
BCC लगभग कभी दूसरे अंगों में नहीं फैलता। लेकिन सालों तक छोड़ दिया जाए तो यह आसपास के cartilage और हड्डी को भी खा सकता है। इलाज मुख्यतः surgery है, और early stages में 95%+ cure rate है।
