U mạch Kaposi gây ra tổn thương màu tím hoặc nâu đỏ trên da, niêm mạc và cơ quan nội tạng. Do virus herpes ở người loại 8 (HHV-8) gây ra và xuất hiện chủ yếu ở người có hệ miễn dịch suy giảm.
Ở Việt Nam, KS hiếm gặp nhưng đang gia tăng cùng với HIV/AIDS và bệnh nhân ghép tạng. Có 4 dạng: cổ điển, AIDS-related, sau ghép tạng, và endemic châu Phi.
